TB Clearance is a requirement of AUSD employment.
Employees are responsible for insuring that they have official current TB Clearance Certificates on file with the District.
This information is meant to give you a quick overview of what is expected when your TB clearance is approaching expiration. While your TB expiration and new clearance is overseen by the AUSD Human Resources, the actual clearance, is handled through AUSD Nursing Services. This means you do not need to drive to a doctor’s office or clinic to have the clearance done. Rather, your certification can be managed at AUSD Nursing Services located at Atascadero High School on regularly scheduled clinic dates.

There will be no traditional skin tests. Skin tests were discontinued by the state of California for primary TB screening in 2014.
Details of how to prepare for your TB appointment:
When a staff member's TB Clearance expires or is approaching expiration, you will be notified by the District Office. You will then be directed to AUSD Nursing Services to complete a state certified TB Risk Assessment (TBRA) Questionnaire. This involves a short series of questions that must be asked, in person, by a Public Health Nurse, and unless there is an anomaly found during the questionnaire, there will be no need for an actual TB skin test. This means that we do not give skin tests anymore.
The nurse may ask you to show your staff ID.
Note: Due to Covid-19, AUSD is allowed to operate our TB RA Screening and Certification program for employees via telehealth video visits. An element of the TBRA screening process is having a state licensed Public Health Nurse literally look at a person WITHOUT a face covering; this is to confirm that there are no tuberculin respiratory symptoms visible with the employee. This means that for the time being, TB screening programs will continue via video teleconferencing.
